Job Description

The Senior Director of Human Resources is a vital leadership position at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA, responsible for cultivating a culture of inclusion, employee engagement, and organizational development. This role involves partnering with directors and leaders to oversee employee relations and engagement initiatives that align with the YMCA's mission, values, and strategic objectives. The Senior Director will have the expertise to assess complex employee issues and create effective, balanced solutions in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership team. The Senior Director of Human Resources will sit on the Association Support Team, participate in all relevant and needed committees, attend all monthly board meetings as well as and participate in special events as needed.

Qualifications
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or equivalent
  • Relevant certifications in HR preferred (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
  • Five or more years of proven experience in senior-level HR leadership, with a track record of strategic HR management and organizational development
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and lead HR transformation initiatives
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
  • In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, legal compliance, talent management, and employee relations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate HR policies, initiatives, and strategies to a diverse audience
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care
  • Possess a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values; demonstrates this understanding through behavior and actions that support the purpose, mission and values
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain composure in high-pressure or challenging situations
  • Current certification in CPR and AED; complete trainings in Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens (internally provided)
Essential Functions
  • Lead and oversee the development and execution of HR strategies that support the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA overall mission, goals and strategic plan
  • Provide guidance on human resource matters to leadership and directors, ensuring alignment with internal policies and procedures
  • Foster HR transformation initiatives that streamline processes, improve employee engagement, and enhance the organizational culture
  • Oversee talent acquisition, development and retention strategies to attract and maintain a high-performing workforce
  • Champion employee training and development programs that build leadership capabilities and align with the Y’s long-term vision
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues and act as a trusted advisor to staff and leadership on sensitive employee matter
  • Manage succession planning and career mapping to ensure growth opportunities for employees
  • Oversee HR policies, processes, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Manage compensation and benefits programs to remain competitive and equitable within the market
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Executive Administrative Assistant, ensuring effective support to the HR department
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture by promoting YMCA's core values, encouraging open communication, and implementing initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by direct supervisor
